January 19th, 2007  |  Published in City Hall, News, politics  |  4 Comments

Just announce a few hours ago via Star Community Newspapers that David Bryan will be running for mayor of Rowlett.  He’s setup a site for his campain here.  Anyone want to weigh in on if he’s worthy of the job?

I’m puzzled at the seemingly indifferent attitude that our city council has on building codes. Am I the only one? I see LA Fitness (drab and plain), the new Target (facing AWAY from 66!) and even the Double-Dave’s strip center (reminds me of an 8-year olds drawing of what a mall looks like) go up and I can’t help but think there is no foresight by this council to demand attractive buildings. You look at Plano, Frisco and even Allen and you can see the huge difference in the codes they establish to help property taxes. I’ve lived here 7 years and the property values show you I’m not the only one noticing this. I didn’t see anything on David’s site that addressed that and I wonder how many other Rowtizens feel the same way.

I agree with J. Gonzalez. The majority council and the Target developers who helped put money into Mayor Johhnson political pac and who knows where else, got his majority to vote for that side of Target facing Hwy 66.
I think it’s an eyesore. The Target built on Garland Rd by 190 is facing Garland Rd and set back from the road, and does not face 190.
What a much nicer view a landscaped front would have been for Target, than the ugly side of a building we will have to see from now on.
We supposedly have building codes, but when you use almost $2 million of our tax dollars to pay the developers for 190 right of way, land they would have had to give to NTTA, what else would we expect.
As far as David Bryan is concerned, he voted right along with the Mayor, Al Alberts, Dennis Alsup, and Becky Sebastian on every single item that raised our taxes, without a second thought. He was a yes man for the Mayor and may still be,
even though Johnson has resigned. I also do not think he has the experience to financially lead this city where it needs to go, and that is to pay off our over whelming debt that will be put onto our children and grandchildren, and how to get our city back on the road to financial independence.

Has anyone else noticed that our little town has gotten so noisey with “boomer car” loud stereos? It’s gotten to the point where there’s no peace an quiet down our streets. Where is the parental control to these little noise boxes driving around?

Why are their so many winney people out their.
Rowlett has had some of the highest taxes around before S. Johnson
became Mayor. From 1985-1992 7 years the tax rate went up
from 41 cents to 57 cents thats 16 cent increase nothing done back then to show for it. From 1998-2007 the went up 10 cents. Plenty to show for it 2 new fire stations, water tower, expantion to the rec center, cheisa road, rowlett road, hickox road, many new employees at the city. Not to mention capital improvements plan, something this city never had before. Also more police and fireman. We will also be seeing about 21 miles of asphalt roads being redone.Their is also going to be improvements to Kenwood Heights and Point Royal. But let me not forget that since 2001 we have gotten wal-mart, target, LA fitness,
tom thumb, and over 100 news shops, restaurants, and banks. The
compaints about taxes on monuments and landscaping Dalrock road,
and HWY 66 were grant money. The tower at the exit ramp on 30 and Dalrock also grant money.
