Lets see what we can do.

January 5th, 2006  |  Published in Comments Request  |  5 Comments

I’ve decided to start a blog about the goings on of Rowlett and I need your help. I want to know what type of stuff you want on the site.
I grew up in Rowlett for 21 years and moved out to live in Dallas..since I left the city has changed dramatically. I have now come back home after leaving the city and I feel like the Rowlett I knew is gone. There’s so much going on and everyone is living their lives and hardly anyone knows what’s coming down the pipe for Rowlett. I still remember when we were hearing about the McDonalds that was going to be built and how excited we all were. I think it would be fun to bring back some of that excitement.

“And yes, I remember when that was a cotton field…..”

We can use this site for just about anything and I’ll even let people submit articles for publication (as long as the content is PG). So comment away.

    I think a great human interest story would be about a new Special Education teacher working at Herfurth Elementary. Anne-Marie Wright moved here from Tennessee last summer and has become a shining star in the GISD Special Ed. Department.
    Another thing deserving of mention is the Rowlett PD’s Special Needs Registry. It allows family members of Alzheimers patients and parents of Special Needs children to register their personal info and picture, in case they wander off or get separated from their caregivers.

    I remember when we all lined up to go to Albertsons when it first arrived.
    You’re right Rowlettian…. you can’t go home again!
    But there’s good and bad to that!
    Where did you go to school back then, Garland?

    I went to school in Garland of course…where the bus route took me. {begin sarcasm} Loved that 45min ride around the neighborhoods of Rowlett. First one on the bus, Last one off…{end sarcasm}

    I have lived in Rowlett for over 20 years. I remember when we went to the Dalrock store to buy milk & fresh produce. I miss that! I also miss the family owned True Value Hardware store that was by Brookshires. Their prices may not ahve been as low as trashy old Walmart, but they were the nicest people and were always quick to help. I really like to spend my money at small mom & pop local businesses. I heard that a new hamburger place just opened on Main St. Texas Star hamburgers I think it is called. I think it would be great to have people eat at different places around town & give their feedback. I would like to see this site have articles about local Rowlett happenings, political discussions, cheers & jeers for businesses in the area and stuff like that. I found that the people who log on the GoRowlett site for the most part are rather rude & snooty. I would like to have like minded people support this site & make it a success.
